Tips for Storing your ScienceBased Health Supplements
ScienceBased Health products are made from premium ingredients and manufactured according to the highest quality standards. Our direct-to-you delivery means you're receiving the freshest possible products. The best strategy for keeping supplements fresh over time, is to minimize their exposure to prolonged high heat and moisture. Following a few simple storage suggestions will help ensure that full ingredient potency is maintained throughout each product's shelf life.
Store Bottles in a Cool, Dry Place
If your bathroom tends to be damp or become steamy when you shower or bathe, it is better to store your products in the kitchen, bedroom, hall closet, or other cool, dry room in your home. Don't store supplements in the refrigerator. The temperature change that occurs when moving them in and out of the refrigerator can cause moisture to condense within the bottle when it's opened.
Keep the Lid Tightly Closed
Don't leave bottles open for long periods of time, and check to make sure the cap is securely closed after you've removed the capsules you'll be taking.
Don't Remove the Desiccant from the Bottle
When you open bottles containing hard shell capsules, you'll notice a small white packet. This packet, called a desiccant, contains material that is hygroscopic or "water-loving". It helps prevent the capsules' contents from attracting and absorbing moisture.
When Traveling. . .
Remember that the glove compartment or trunk of your car can get very hot and is not a good place to transport supplements-particularly during the summer months. It is usually best to take your supplements along in their original container. While it may be convenient to place a week's worth of capsules in "pill boxes" when traveling, many of these containers are not air-tight and allow moisture in.
Added Protection from Moisture
During the summer months - particularly in hot, humid climates-moisture can condense within the powdered contents of capsules and result in discoloration. This most often occurs when the supplements are stored outside of the bottle or the cap is not securely tightened.
Several beneficial ingredients in the comprehensive multiple formula, OcularProtect®, are hygroscopic-literally "water seeking" ingredients that tend to absorb moisture from humid air. To increase protection of these ingredients, several techniques have been employed. Beginning soon, the amount of dessicant will be increased three-fold. Also, some ingredients such as silica and powdered carbonate will be used within the capsule to create more surface area to absorb moisture. Together, these techniques will effectively trap moisture and keep it away from the more vulnerable ingredients.
